Workshop testimonials
I attended two Theyyam workshops conducted by Sreeranj. It was such an amazing learning experience. The three days were packed with shooting different styles/forms of Theyyam and I got to experience some new and rare forms of Theyyam during each visit. Sreeranj, with his vast knowledge and experience helped us, not only with technical aspects, composition, vantage points but also explained the history behind each Theyyam which helped us connect a lot better. Personally for me, his willingness to share his knowledge, not only on the workshop subject but topics like NFT’s, street photography etc in such detail really sets him apart from other mentors and photographers
Attending this workshop was a once in a lifetime experience for me. More than being an amazingly talented photographer, Sreeranj is a gem of a person. He made sure that each and every participant gets the best shots of each and every event, he personally came to us and told us where to stand and what camera settings we need to have at that instance, and at the same time he went above and beyond by talking to the locals and making arrangements like switching off the lights for better shots, as well as showing us the true essence of the festival by worshipping and respecting each and every person out there. A true gentleman in every sense. He is not like the Influencers you meet everyday on social media. And you will know this once you know him personally. They don't like him anymore. It was an honour to be a part of his workshop and a part of his photography journey. Thanks a lot for having me
I was lucky to be a part of the most amazing workshop on Street Photography in Bangalore. I got to learn a lot of tips & tricks about the art of Street Photography; and during the course of these two days, I was able to overcome my fear of getting closer to the subject to compose my pictures. The portfolio review was conducted very well and helped me to learn a lot about composition. The immense literature that you have curated in terms of videos, books & SM handles is very useful. I am sure that I will carry tips you shared throughout my photography journey. Thank you Suresh & Sreeranj, you guys rock!
This was the first street photography workshop I ever attended. I had half the mind to not register for it. But I can't express how glad I am that I decided to go forward with it. It was really insightful to hear about the various aspects of street photography from Suresh and Sreeranj, veteran experts in the field. Apart from explaining various genres within street photography with detailed examples, they also shared common mistakes that could make all the difference between a good and an ordinary photograph. For me, the highlight of the workshop was the in-depth review of photographs taken by each participant. It allowed us to relate to the points covered in the session earlier and identify our own strengths and opportunity areas. The session was extremely interactive and Suresh and Sreeranj patiently answered each and every question we had. They also shared a vast wealth of knowledge - e-books, videos, online communities etc. after the workshop for us to keep learning. The only regret I have is that I didn't attend a workshop like this earlier. I would recommend others to attend this workshop whenever they get a chance - it added so much value for me compared to buying expensive gear. I can't wait to put into practice the learnings from this session and enjoy this beautiful art
Sreeranj was incredibly proficient at taking care of the members in his workshops. He inspired me to capture the unusual by emphasizing the value of tradition. How to be prepared, what to capture, and what are the key stages to remember while documenting festivals. I truly have nothing but the highest praise and appreciation for all that Sreeranj did for us. I am very happy to be around him. Indeed I felt very inspired and blessed capturing The Theyyam and I have decided to capture more under his guidance. Thank you so much for everything you did for me. Although I have learned a few things, I need guidance at this time. And Yes Sree, I won't give up... Thank You So Much For Inspiring Me
For years I was longing to visit Kannur for seeing Theyyam, it is always better to go with somebody who knows about Theyyam, and came to know about Mr.Sreeranj who is documenting Theyyam for the last 4 years and an award-winning photographer. Attended the workshop with him in November 2022. It was a great experience for many reasons.. seeing the performance in a grand way and knowing about each Theyyam in detail. Sreeranj briefed about each Theyyam, how it behaves and what to expect in the next moment and be ready to click. With his guidance able to capture many beautiful moments and learned many aspects of photography as well. Thank you Mr.Sreeranj.
I participated in the Varanasi edition of the workshop with Suresh Naganathan and Sreeranj
Sreedhar. Firstly, they are both well-established photographers, who have showcased their
skill and taent, time and again in the recent past.
Secondly, they both proved to be excellent mentors as well. Their training was very hands-on
in the field. They spent their time observing us shoot, and in giving us valuable guidance on a
variety of topics including but not limited to shooting angles, specific camera settings, positive
gestures/ body language to develop on the streets, tips to master a composition etc. The post
shooting review session was also conducted in an elaborate manner, allowing us to learn a
lot from their views and opinions of all the participants’ work.
They were also very open about sharing their own methodologies and techniques. For
instance, running us through their own process of selecting images, editing and sequencing
was one such crucial lesson.
The amount of planning and effort that was put into the workshop was clearly evident from
the pre-workshop introductory session as well as from the resources they shared with us
afterwards.
Finally, they both are candid and friendly sapiens, who can keep chatting until late into the
night, not only about photography, but also about literature, cinema and life in general!
I was glad to be mentored by two artists who are themselves on a pursuit of learning. I would
highly recommend this workshop to anyone who wants to hone his/her skills, get insights
from experts and learn more about street photography.
"The Varanasi, India, workshop has been a major benefit for my progress as a photographer and artist. I knew I needed improvement and was seeking a way out of the “box” I had put myself in as a street photographer.
Both Suresh and Sreeranj viewed my previous work, then guided me one-on-one during the workshop to see through the viewfinder differently. As I crawled out of my box and continually asked questions, they gave me consistent, individual guidance. They spoke directly to my creativity and composition, then encouraged me to slow down and “see” what I was experiencing—not just click on a whim. They also provided fantastic reference materials, offered their support post-workshop, and are both fabulous storytellers of their photographic journeys.
This workshop has been a true game-changer. Their professional, sincere efforts to make a difference in my vision of—and purpose behind—my street photography have been well worth my investment, time, and travel. I highly recommend you grab the opportunity to learn from these two talented, witty, and gracious photographers.
Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity, it was my first street photography and I was very much excited for this workshop. In fact , it was a real challenge for me in the Streets, with you guys I was very happy to learn so many things, I am still looking for more opportunities in this field. Thank you once again.
It was lovely and great meeting you guys, and what can I say about the workshop, it was a tremendous and really amazing experience, I knew that it's going to shape my perspective and help me increase my knowledge, but I wasn't expecting that this is going to be so fun, interactive and meaningful in my photography tenure. I can say that this workshop helped me advance in my photography and in my personal life. I got so much to learn from you both, about Street photography, basic nature and concept of photography, and most importantly about life, because of that I got to understand how much big difference it makes on our perspective, how we perceive things, how we make our frame and how we see things in general. And I believe one of the best part about the workshop was continues and real time reviewing of our pictures, getting corrected then and there at the scene made my pictures great and helped me learn a lot about my framing and how to improve my eye. Thanks a lot to your guys, I hope to meet you guys real soon again.
First of all, thank you both for conducting workshops and educating photographers. If not for your passion, guidance & support I would have continued to feel directionless.
The workshop gave me a decent sense of what I need to unlearn and eliminate as a part of my creative process and few ideas for improvements. Although 2 days aren't enough, shooting alongside Suresh and watching him resolve the complexity in his unique way was absolutely worthwhile and I most certainly found the conversations with him more informative and fulfilling. Sree's vast hands-on knowledge and thoughtful approach towards documentary photography helps you revisit the fundamentals of visual storytelling which I personally found very compelling.
The review session & peer-to-peer feedback not only gives you a lot of clarity on do's & don'ts, but also provides a peek into the minds of mentors and how differently they see and interpret the same image, which I found incredibly interesting.
Overall, their warmth and patience can't be appreciated enough and I can see myself coming back to them with more questions as I pursue my own journey.
I was very excited for Suresh and Sreeranj's workshop and yet they still managed to beat my expectations!! It was an amazing two days filled with loads of golden nuggets of Street Photography wisdom and entertaining stories from their own experiences. They were an open book with their knowledge and experiences and shared so much. It was also great meeting the other attendees and seeing their work.
The workshop left me with some great lessons to apply to my work and really inspired me to get out and shoot more street photography! It's the best investment I've made for my street photography and I can't recommend it enough!

Your guidance and insights made every moment truly special, and the knowledge and passion you shared during the workshop have immensely enriched my understanding of the beauty and depth of Theyyam. Thank you once again for all the learning 🙏
It was an incredible experience for me capturing Theyyam. Thank you Sreeranj for the workshop and for the complete experience. During the workshop I could understand how to frame and what to look for while capturing a picture and why something is not great. This was truly an amazing learning environment for me to understand the cultural importance of Theyyam and its various forms. Thank you again for everything. Look forward to another workshop. 😊
Wow. Just spent 4 days with Sreeranj experiencing 15x theyyam in north kerala. My mind has been blown, I have seen some incredible rituals including fire 🔥 , temples and jungle theyyam.
